The Historic 2.32 km Cable-Stayed Engineering Marvel
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Sudarshan Setu (formerly Okha-Beyt Dwarka Signature Bridge) represents a historic transformation in Gujarat pilgrimage connectivity. Spanning 2.32 kilometers across the Gulf of Kutch with a 900-meter central cable-stayed section, it is officially India’s longest cable-stayed bridge.
The bridge features magnificent pedestrian footpaths adorned with verses of the Bhagavad Gita and life depictions of Lord Krishna on both sides, topped by rooftop solar panels generating 1 megawatt of clean electricity for the island.
Driving Distance and Timings from Dwarka
- Dwarka City to Sudarshan Setu Base: 30 km (approx. 35 to 40 minutes drive) via smooth 4-lane NH-51.
- Bridge Crossing Time: Just 3 to 4 minutes by car or coach.
- Direct Access: Vehicles drive directly across the bridge onto Bet Dwarka island, arriving right at the designated parking plaza within 800 meters of the ancient Beyt Dwarkadhish Temple.
Sudarshan Setu vs. The Traditional Passenger Ferry
Prior to the bridge opening, pilgrims were dependent on crowded wooden ferry boats from Okha jetty, often enduring 2-hour delays during rough monsoon tides or low water. The bridge provides 24/7 all-weather vehicle access, allowing travel agencies to operate air-conditioned Innova Crystas, Tempo Travellers, and luxury coaches directly onto the island.
